Dennis Small Cultural Center/Student Programs Office
The Dennis Small Cultural Center is located in the University Memorial Center room 457, and is dedicated to on-campus ethnic and minority communities. The center is named after Dennis Small, a unique individual that was the University's original Ombudsman and champion of diversity on campus. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and some evenings.
The Office of Student Programs provides support for student groups planning events, as well as locating, evaluating, and booking speakers and artists. Support and referral services are provided for conferences, seminars, and educational, political, and social events in the UMC. The office is located in UMC 317. These positions are open to highly motivated students who want to serve the underrepresented community and enhance multicultural awareness while enriching their own personal character. Students of the Dennis Small Cultural Center will gain a competitive edge as they develop an eclectic and diverse skill set and will also have the opportunity to collaborate and network with various members of the Boulder and CU campus community.
An event planner is expected to coordinate events that further the mission of the DSCC while working closely with higher level employees. In addition, he or she will commit to serving our underrepresented student groups and our campus community as a whole by providing opportunities that enhance cultural awareness and celebrate diversity.
Responsibilities may include: Planning multi-cultural events, brainstorming new ideas, collaborating with other employees, student groups, and departments, following financial and marketing procedures, creating buff bulletins, flyers, and other forms of advertisement.
Required: Must be a CU student with work study. Excellent clerical, computer, customer service, communication, time/project management, and organizational skills.
Preferred: Experience in event planning.
Priority deadline is on Monday, Nov. 30th. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.
