GENERAL INFORMATION
What is CU NightRide?
CU NightRide is a free safety program that provides students with a non-judgmental ride on campus and within Boulder city limits.
So I want a ride; what do I do?
Please call 303-492-7233 (on campus dial B-SAFE), and follow the dispatcher's instructions. The dispatcher will schedule a pickup time and give you a pickup location. While the dispatcher will try to contact you, it is your responsibility to be watching for the vehicle. (For more information please see Policies).
And who can use CU NightRide?
CU NightRide is a free service for CU students, faculty, and staff.
Where does CU NightRide go?
CU NightRide provides service on the main CU-Boulder campus and from or to any point off campus within the city boundaries (download map in pdf format).
How many vehicles does CU NightRide have?
Currently the program has five vehicles: a white Honda Civic Hybrid, a white Dodge Caravan, two white Dodge Stratus and a white Toyota Camry Hybrid. All CU NightRide vehicles have top-lights that sit on the roof, and when lit up display the program's name and phone number.
CAMPUS INFORMATION
Which buildings does CU NightRide go to on campus?
The program offers service to all buildings on the main campus.
CLIENT INFORMATION
What is the priority system?
CU NightRide is primarily a safety service and as such we organize who we pick up first accordingly. Single clients have the highest priority, followed by groups of two and three. Groups larger then three will only be picked up if time permits.
What happens if I have to make an addition to my group after I've scheduled a ride?
Please keep the dispatcher apprised of any changes to group size. The dispatcher may be scheduling other groups with yours. The driver is in constant contact with the dispatcher and will know how many are supposed to be present. For more information see Policies.
I've got a group of seven, can I get a ride?
No, the most people that CU NightRide can safely transport is six. For safety and liability reasons, the program cannot have more people in the vehicle then there are seatbelts for.
Can't you just send two vehicles?
Unfortunately this is not possible. The program receives a very high level of requests and in order to accommodate all clients with the best possible efficiency the program cannot tie up two vehicles.
Why do I have to show my student ID?
For insurance reasons, the drivers must know that the people being transported are affiliates of the University of Colorado. You are expected to present your ID when you get into the vehicle. For more information please see Policies.
I called in to check on my ride, but I got the message that you guys are closed; what happened?
Although the phones will be turned off at closing time, CU NightRide will complete all scheduled rides before the end of the night. The dispatcher will try to contact you at the number you leave and the driver will go by the appropriate corner. For more information please see Policies.
Hey, my ride left without me; what happened?
In order to operate in the most efficient manner possible, CU NightRide sets a time limit on how long it can wait for a group of people. When the dispatcher contacts you, you are expected to immediately go out to the designated corner. Even if the dispatcher is unable to reach you, you should still be keeping an eye out at the scheduled time. If you miss your ride, you will have to schedule a new ride. For more information, please see Policies.
EMPLOYMENT AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
I want to work for you guys, what do I do?
Great, CU NightRide is always looking for people dedicated to improving safety for the CU community. Please click on the Employment opportunities link in the CU NightRide section. Download the application, fill it out, and turn in it at the reception desk of the UMC (University Memorial Center). Proof of valid driver's license is required for employment. All finalists for employment with CU NightRide will be subject to a Motor Vehicle History and Criminal Background check. All employees and volunteers are carefully interviewed by the Director of the program.
When I was sixteen I got a speeding ticket for going five miles over the speed limit. Would that keep me from being hired?
By itself, probably not. CU NightRide strives to find the safest drivers possible, but a spotless record is not absolutely required. If you have something more major, or recent, or lots of "somethings", that might be more of a problem.
I think what you guys do is great, and I'd love to help out. What can I do?
If you are interested in volunteering for the program, please follow the instructions for employment. For more information contact the administrative office at 303-492-3230. |
